Spirits (50+) Comeback Too Little, Too Late

(March 22, 2025 – Carrollton, TX) Too little, too late, and more importantly, don’t underestimate your opponent. These were two hard lessons the Spirits (50+) squad had to learn Saturday morning as the team watched the Freebirds pick up their first win in league history, pounding Spirits pitching for 16 hits in a 10 to 7 win that watched the team exit the field as if they had one a Super Bowl appearance.

With 16 hitters in the lineup, offense was scarce, as the Spirits left the game with just 5 hits, and despite 5 fielding errors and 7 walks delivered by Freebirds pitching, the Spirits were only able to muster up 7 runs.

Dee Mauldin doubled and knocked in a run while Shawn Lee finished 1-for-1 with a walk and a run scored. Kent Fischer‘s triple and run scored accounted for most of the Spirits “offense.” Eric McPherson and Mike Sopocy were the only two other Spirits hitters to hit safely in the contest.

The Freebirds held a 10 to 2 advantage after a 5-run sixth inning but the Spirits attempted to rally in the bottom half of the seventh. The team fell short with a 4-run inning that made the score look less worse than it was.

Lee had no comment after the contest, however, there were murmurs between players walking back to their car with phrases like, “hope they had learned their lesson” spoken as both teams exited the park. The Spirits return to action in next Saturday when they play host to the Yankees. Fans can click here for schedule details.
