(September 21, 2023 – Coppell, TX) It was probably a game the Denton Expos would like to forget. In a shortened game won by the Spirits (40+) by a score of 15 to 0, the Expos allowed just 4 of those runs to be earned, adding 3 walks against 11 hits by the Spirits, while aiding the ghosts base running values by adding 9 errors in the field.
“I’m sure they’d like this one back,” Shawn Lee commented. “We’ve certainly been there and done that. You can’t get anything to go your way. Errors in the field, a walk or two, maybe a bad call by the ump to compound something, and then errors on the field. Deadly combination to take the fun out of the game instantly. We know this pain well. Just fortunate to be on the right side of it tonight.”
Don Massoud and Chris Lewis each added a pair of hits on the night, with Massoud adding a pair of runs scored and batted in, while Lewis doubled, scored once and added a pair of runs batted in. Mike Sopocy finished with a single, walk, two runs scored, and 2 runs batted in as well to help lead the Spirits. Eric McPherson doubled, scored 3 times and knocked in a pair of runs as well. Will Nash, Jason Reyes, and Jonathan Duran each added a double as well before the night was over.
Duran picked up the win, tossing just a pair of innings while allowing no hits, no walks, and striking out 2. Massoud also pitched two innings, allowing a hit, walking one, and striking out 3.
The team returns to action on Sunday when they visit the Rough Riders on Cowboy Field in Coppell. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30PM and fans can click here for schedule details.
