(August 25, 2025 – Coppell, TX) A 6-run fourth inning helped catapult the Spirits (45+) fall squad to a 10 to 4 win over a fiesty Rough Riders team.
Travis Hitzeman, Shawn Lee, and Vinny Diciero each doubled and finished with a pair of hits on the night, with Hitzeman adding a run scored and a run batted in. Lee added 2 runs scored and 2 more batted in while Diciero added an RBI of his own. Kevin Simmons also added a pair of hits on the night with 2 runs batted in to top the Spirits box score.
The Spirits took an early 1 to 0 lead in the top half of the first inning after Eric McPherson walked and swiped second base, and then later scored on Hitzeman’s double. The Rough Riders tied the game in the bottom of the second after Junyoung Kim singled and stole a pair of bases. Abhi Mahajan walked and after John Ip replaced him on a fielder’s choice, Kim scored to tie the game.
It the fourth, it was all Spirits. Hitzeman led things off with a double and scored after Lee replaced him with a double to the left centerfield gap. Mike Sopocy‘s single scored Lee and after Sopocy took second base, the Spirits had runners at the corners after Shawn Hunt drew a walk. Sopocy later scored on a passed ball and after Simmons lost a battle of strikes, Hunt was able to score on a ground out by Earl German. Jonathan Duran reached on an error to keep the inning going and a walk to Stacy Scott loaded the bags. Duran later scored on an wild pitch and an RBI double by Diciero sent Scott to the dish to make it 7 to 1, Spirits.
The Rough Riders rallied for a run in the bottom frame to cut the lead down to 7 to 2 before the Spirits answered with 3 more runs in the top half of the fifth inning. McPherson reached on an error and Hitzeman was hit by a pitch before Lee singled home McPherson. Sopocy reached on a fielder’s choice that put out Hitzeman at third and after Hunt grounded out, Lee and Sopocy moved a bag to set the plate for Simmons to knock in both runners with a hard single to make it 10 to 2.
Diciero, who replaced Duran in the top half of the fourth struggled with his control a bit and walked the bases loaded. The ghosts then turned to German to clean up the mess and after getting Matt Peyregne to force an out at the plate following an ill advised bunt, Keith Riley later scored on a wild pitch to give the Riders another run. an RBI single by Mike Rodgers scored Manual Rocha to give the game its final score before German was able to get Samuel Garcia to fly out.
The Spirits look to return to the field as they finally visit Reverchon Park in Dallas after a long awaited two year hiatus while the city refurbished the field. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 PM and fans can click here for schedule details.
