Shawn Hunt

Shawn Hunt returns to the Spirits in his seventh full season coming to Dallas by way of the state of Oregon. Hunt joined the Spirits as a tournament player in the MSBL Las Vegas Kickoff Classic, and made his way to full time as the Spirits (35+) catcher in 2020. In 2021, the team moved to the DFW-ABA (40+) League and Shawn continues to hold his half of the team’s starting battery. Hunt’s defensive play remained outstanding during the 2024 campaign, and an improved swing moved him up the lineup, where he added key hits and a .489 average and third place finish on the team with 21 runs batted in.

Shawn hit .378 for the 45 squad in 2025 while adding 9 walks, 15 runs scored and 9 runs batted in. For the 50 squad, Hunt hit .413 while adding 4 doubles, a triple, 10 runs scored, and 17 runs batted in.

Hunt is solid behind the dish and can also be relied upon to play 3B if necessary, but his hard throws to second base change the game most of the time, forcing opponents to rethink base-stealing strategies throughout each game. With a great knowledge of the game, Hunt can be relied upon to call great games for his pitchers while also being a needed asset for taking down greedy base runners attempting to swipe bases.

Shawn continues to be the top catcher for each of the Spirit squads. During the 2021 campaign, Hunt finished with a solid .316 batting average, adding 12 hits including 3 extra base hits in the form of 2 doubles and a triple. He also scored 12 times and pitched in 9 runs batted in with hits that often showed up during clutch moments in ball games. Shawn finished second on the team with 13 free passes to first and lead the team by wearing 4 pitches.

In 2022, Hunt continued to improve, helping lead the Spirits as one of the team’s top defenders and solid improvement in his swing. Shawn finished 2022 for the (40+) squad with a .340 batting average, adding 16 hits that included a pair of doubles, 9 runs scored, and 7 RBIs. For the Spirits (42+) squad, Hunt appeared in 3 games, adding 4 hits with a pair of doubles, and 5 runs batted in. Hunt finished the Fall campaign with a .348 average with 8 hits including a double and a triple, 5 walks, 11 runs scored, and 6 runs batted in.

He now carries a confident bat and can be relied upon to hit for power as well, coming up with big hits when needed and carrying speed typically faster than most catchers like him. Hunt resides in McKinney with his wife, Megan and their two wonderful Newfoundlands (“Bears”), Bruin and Fenway.
