(September 16, 2016 – Carrollton, TX) The Spirits (45+) squad used some solid hitting including a 3 for 3 performance by first baseman Brian Hackney as they cruised to a 10 to 6 victory over the Cubs Friday night at Graham Field. Hackney’s performance included a solo home run and a pair of RBIs and runs scored as the Spirits put together 13 hits against Cubs pitching.
Kirk Sipila added a pair of hits including a double and a pair of runs scored and the rest of the roster hit safely at least one time. Eric McPherson added a pair of RBIs and a run scored, and Patrick Bilgere continued his hot streak with a single, walk, and a pair of runs scored as well. Brant Finchum was the final offensive statĀ leader with a run scored and a pair of RBIs.
Finchum was solid from the hill as the team’s starting pitcher, allowing only 3 earned runs on 7 hits, while striking out 2. John Holmquist managed some mop-up work with a 2 inning performance giving up 3 hits and 1 earned run on his way to the save.
With the victory, the Spirits advance to the next round as they’ll face the back to back champs, the Dallas RangersĀ on Monday night at Graham Field located at Prestonwood Christian Academy. First pitch is 6:30 PM.
