(April 9, 2022 – Carrollton, TX) It was ugly from the get go, and the Spirits (50+) offense showed little mercy as they cruised to a 16 to 1 win Saturday morning in DFW-ABA 50 League play.
A six-run first followed by a 5-run second and third inning left the Cubs wondering why they woke up for baseball, as the Spirits put together 12 hits and still left 9 runners on base in just 5 innings at the plate.
Eric McPherson, Kirk Sipila, and Jack Nash each recorded a pair of hits on the day. Sipila doubled once and scored 3 times, also adding 3 runs batted in while McPherson walked once, and scored twice. Nash added an RBI as well. Chris Allen played the perfect leadoff hitter, walking all 3 times he made it to the dish and scoring on all 3 opportunities. Mike Sopocy and Vince Parello each added a pair of runs batted in as well.
Sopocy finished with the complete shortened-game win as the Spirits pitcher, allowing just one earned run on 3 hits while walking 2, and striking out 6. The team returns to action in two weeks following the Easter holiday weekend, when they host Metroflex. Game is scheduled at McInnish Park, Field #10 and first pitch is slated for 11:45AM.
