Spirits (40+) Fall to Redbirds in First Inning Blowout

(June 5, 2024 – Euless, TX) You’ve heard of “it’s over less the crying,” before, and unfortunately for the Spirits (40+), that phrase took hold in the first inning of a game that was over before the first inning was complete this past Wednesday night.

Facing their arch nemesis, kryptonite, or any other possible cliche you can come up with to describe one team’s complete dominance over another, the Spirits turned a fast start into a complete blowout after initially putting up 3 runs in the top half of the inning, only to watch as the Redbirds compiled 11 runs of their own before cruising to an easy 16 to 4 mercy-rule victory.

Eric McPherson added a pair of hits for the Spirits including a double and a run scored, while Anthony Osburn added a single and 2 runs batted in during the beat down. The Spirits defense embarrassed themselves with 9 errors in the game (9 that were counted) as the Redbirds either hit safely or reached safely courtesy of the Spirits defensive failures.

Mark Tierney led the Redbirds with 3 hits, 2 runs scored and 3 runs batted in, and was supported by Jerry Anderson’s 2-for-3 performance that included a double, stolen base, 2 runs scored and 3 runs batted in. Joe Lowry also added a triple on a two hit performance, scoring twice and knocking in 2 runs.

The Spirits will hit the reset button when they return to action next Wednesday as they visit the Tigers for the regular season finale. Fans can click here for schedule details.
