(April 30, 2017 – Dallas, TX) The Athletics didn’t prove to be much of a hurdle for the Spirits (18+) squad this past Sunday afternoon at Jesuit College Preparatory in Dallas, as the team coasted to victory behind solid hitting by Justin Anderson, Eric Goetz, Duane Aponte, Dana Donato, and newcomer, Teddy Croft. Anderson and Goetz each went 3-for-3 on the afternoon with Aponte adding a double to his dossier. The Spirits put on a hitting exhibition despite sending 14 different hitters to the plate as they cruised to a 15 to 4 victory stemming from a 20-hit attack.
Donato and Cliff Brade each doubled on the afternoon with Donato also contributing a pair of runs scored and batted in. JP Seider also had a big afternoon going 2-for-3 from the dish with a run scored and 3 runs batted in. Goetz added a pair of RBIs and a run scored and 8 additional Spirits hitters provided at least one hit or one run batted in on the day.
Thomas Stoltz picked up his first victory as a Spirits pitcher, going 3 innings while giving up 3 hits, one earned run, one walk, and striking out 2 Athletics hitters. Mike Werner also pitched 2 innings, giving up 2 unearned runs while striking out 4. Seider and Croft each added an additional inning to close out the game defensively.
The victory takes the NTABL Open American League squad to 6-2 on the year and currently a third place position within the standings. The team returns to action Tuesday evening as they visit the Indians starting at 8:45PM at Reverchon Park in Uptown, Dallas.
