(September 30, 2020 – Euless, TX) Sensing a small theme for 2020? The Spirits (40+) offense saw that same theme of lacking opportunity to score runs happen again Wednesday night as they fell to the Rattlers by a score of 7 to 3 on Arlington Field at Texas Star.
The squad mustered up 7 hits to score 3 runs, but after leaving 10 runners on base and adding a few fielding errors, the recipe for victory just wasn’t in sight. Travis Hitzeman, Eric McPherson and Dan Sosa accounted for 6 of the 7 hits for the Spirits, with Stacy Scott providing the only other hit on a soft pop-up that got passed the Rattlers infield.
The Spirits finished with zero extra base hits on the night and could only watch as the Rattlers chipped away after the game was tied at 3 to 3 to cruise to a win in DFW ABA action. Stephen Smith led the Rattlers with a pair of hits, a run scored and an RBI.
Sosa remained hot for the Spirits, finishing 2-for-2 with a walk, duplicating his previous game stat line. Sosa also provided assistance from the mound after Spirits starter, Bobby Kornhauser struggled with high pitch counts and a lack of a strike zone to throw to. Korhauser went 2.1 innings, giving up 2 earned on 4 hits while walking 7 and striking out 3. Sosa allowed 3 earned on 5 hits in 2.2 innings pitched while walking 0 and striking out 3.
The Spirits return to action next Wednesday night when they host the Fighting Chihuahuas on Legends Field. Click here for schedule details or to listen in live by downloading the iScore Central app.
