Orioles Crush Spirits…Figuratively and Literally

P John Holmquist

(April 18, 2016 – Dallas, TX) The Dallas Spirits (45+) saw the rains stop falling just enough to allow for a game this past Monday night, however the storm clouds remained intact and dropped a heavy dose of storm activity on the squad in the form of the Dallas Orioles. A handful of errors combined with limited offense was a recipe for disaster as the team fell 16 to 1.

The Orioles unleashed for 16 hits and put up a dozen runs in the 5th inning to seal their victory well before the contest was over. SS Eric McPherson led the team with two hits and C Patrick Bilgere picked up the team’s only RBI.

John Holmquist looked strong and seemed to have command of three pitches,” mentioned team skipper, Kirk Sipila following the blowout. “The defense didn’t support the effort he gave us tonight.” Holmquist returned to action in his 2016 debut, following some knee issues in the off-season. OF/1B Shawn Lee also returned to action in his first game back with the club following off-season sports hernia surgery.

“The bats weren’t good at all tonight,” continued Sipila. “Give their pitching all the credit, but we’ve proven to be a much better than what we displayed tonight. The great thing about baseball is losing by one or fifteen is still just a single loss. We’ll grow from this and have short term memory. Hopefully this makes the guys hungry as we prep for a big game next Monday.”

The Spirits Masters return to action next Monday night at Reverchon Park in Uptown, Dallas as they host the Texas Blue Jays. First pitch is at 8:45PM.
