Offense Disappears in Loss to Red Sox

(April 21, 2021 – Euless, TX) Just two days ago, the Spirits (45+) squad was able to put up 17 runs on 17 hits in just 5 innings but Wednesday night was a completely different story. The high octane offense displayed in several games this season all but disappeared as the Red Sox took full control of the Spirits (40+) squad and never looked back in DFW-ABA 40 League action at Texas Star.

Sox pitcher, Oscar Ronqillo kept Spirits hitters off balance, going the distance to pick up the win after allowing just 2 earned runs off of 3 hits as the Red Sox rolled the Spirits by a score of 13 to 3.

David Tipton was really the only sign of offense, finishing the game 1-for-2 with a run scored, a pair of RBIs and a stolen base. Brant Finchum and Stacy Scott were the only other two Spirits to hit safely, while Eric McPherson and Kirk Sipila reached base via walks, and Shawn Hunt wore a pair of pitches to reach safely twice. The Spirits defense put up 5 errors that cost the team several runs and starting pitcher, Jonathan Duran struggled finding the right combinations of pitches as the Red Sox took him for 5 earned runs off of 11 hits including a walked-in run.

“Not much to say about it really,” Shawn Lee commented after the game. “Sometimes the other team is just better. Tonight it was the Sox. They hit the ball extremely well (finishing with 15 hits) and we just couldn’t get it started. It sucks when you’re 4 or 5 innings in and you just realize your team isn’t going got find it. But you learn from it, figure things out for the next one. We’ll be ok.”

The team gets back on the field next Wednesday night when they visit the Brewers on Arlington Field at Texas Star. Game start is 8:45PM and you can click here for schedule details or to download the iScore Central app to listen in live online.
