(May 8, 2024 – Euless, TX) Nearly every fielder on the team had a shot and adding an error to the box score Wednesday night, and as a result of poor play on defense, the Bisons easily rolled past the Spirits (40+) squad in DFW-ABA 40 League action at Texas Star.
The ghosts put up 7 runs which wins on most occasions, but following a game with 9 errors in the field, 9 that were counted, the team simply struggled to give starting pitcher, Stacy Scott a break. A 6 to 5 lead in the top half of the fourth inning quickly disappeared into a 14 to 7 loss.
“Not much to say here,” manager, Shawn Lee commented when asked about his team’s performance. “We’ve never been a truly solid defensive team. We rely on heavy offense to win games; sometimes good pitching or a combination of both. But man, we love to kick the ball around. And when we do, we like to exacerbate that error by panicking and making a throw. This isn’t a shot at anyone directly. We all do it. And for some reason, it turns into a landslide once it starts. Tonight was embarrassing, we all know it. We’ll just try to forget this one and get it together for the next contest.”
Spirits pitching was only responsible for 5 earned runs, enough to have allowed the Spirits to pick up a win. Scott worked for 3 innings, allowing 3 earned on 7 hits, while walking a pair and striking out one. Earl German closed out the final 3 innings out, allowing 2 earned on 6 hits while walking one.
Cliff Brade did his part offensively, finishing a perfect 3-for-3 on the night, scoring twice, and snatching 3 stolen bases. Shawn Hunt and Scott each added a pair of hits on the night with Hunt adding a double and an RBI while Scott scored twice.
The team looks to rebound and put this one behind them and they’ll have their work cut out for them when visit SheGone next Wednesday night at 8:45PM. The game will take place on Legends Field at Texas Star and fans can click here for additional schedule details.
