(June 8, 2024 – Carrollton, TX) Some games are just unfair. On Saturday, it’s likely a few of the Freebirds would have agreed with that comment. The Spirits (50+) squad used a 4-run first and a 14-run second inning to blowout the Freebirds Saturday morning in a game that wasn’t much of a contest and one that ended extremely early due to a horrible injury that required medical attention to one of the Freebirds players.
The lineup of 12 hitters was relentless against a Freebirds pitching roster that struggled mightily to get the ball over the plate. After just two innings, the teams decided to shut the game down after one of the Freebirds players was hurt badly in centerfield while chasing down a fly ball.
Kevin Simmons finished 2-for-2 with 2 hits, 2 runs scored, 2 RBIs and a walk to lead the Spirits on offense. Stacy Scott was 1-for-3 with a double, 2 runs scored and 2 runs batted in, while Vince Parello, Brian Hackney, and Eric McPherson each finished with 2 runs batted in during the short game. McPherson also added a double. Every Spirits hitter reached safely with 9 of 13 hitting safely at least once during the game.
The team returns to action next Saturday as they host the rival Redbirds starting at 11:45AM. Fans can click here for schedule details.
