Offense Stalls, Bringing Spirits (45+) Back to Earth

(June 22, 2026 – Coppell, TX) It was plain. It was ugly. It was boring. A lifeless attempt at baseball showed up in the form of the Spirits (45+) squad on Monday night as the team essentially went through the motions of baseball and watched as the Knights played hard and showed up to win a contest. Consequently, the Knights coasted to a 7 to 3 victory.

No discredit to Knights starter, Tim Trout. Trout kept the Spirits hitters both off balance and walking back to the dugout for most of the game, allowing just one earned run in 6 innings of work. Trout assisted Spirits offense by handing them 6 walks against 2 strikeouts and the ghosts’ offense did nothing with the assists.

Knights third baseman, Chauhtemoc Zubillaga finished 2-for-2 on the night, walking once and knocking in 2 runs while also adding several defensive plays that shut down any Spirits offensive hopes.

Kirk Sipila showed up on offense but had little help as he finished 2-for-2 with a walk. Eric McPherson, Dale Baird, and Eric Goetz were the only other batters to hit safely on the night, as the Spirits saw yet another game fall to the hands of the friendly foe.

Mike Sopocy picked up the loss defensively, allowing 3 earned off 6 hits, while walking 3 and striking out 5.

“Not much to say about this one,” Shawn Lee mentioned after the game. “We didn’t seem in the mood to play. I’ll leave it at that. Body language, everything – just dead. And a lot of us sucked at the plate tonight. We didn’t throw this one away on defense like we usually do against the Knights. Tonight we just put absolutely nothing together. Swallow it, forget it, and move on. We sucked tonight. Our ‘Don’t Suck’ motto disappeared on offense today.”

The team has a chance to regroup next Monday night when they visit the Expos at 8:45PM at Cowboy Field. Fans can click here for schedule details.
