(June 1, 2026 – Coppell, TX) It got ugly…fast! The Spirits (45+) squad got back onto Cowboy Field following an 11-11 tie against the Knights and then a forfeit to the North Dallas Expos who showed up with 6 players the following week and unleashed their fury with a 22 run game that probably could have been worse. The Reds were a bit short handed, namely in the pitching department, and that cost them dearly.
The Spirits rallied for an 18-hit shortened-game win as they cruised to a 22 to 4 victory. Every Spirits hitter was able to hit safely with multiple players in their feels at the plate all night. From top to bottom, nearly every player finished with insane numbers but Dale Baird remained at the top. Baird finished 3-for-4 with a home run, scoring 3 times and knocking in 4 runs. Jonathan Duran picked up the win on the mound and finished with a single, sacrifice fly, and 4 runs batted in. Cliff Brade was 2-for-2 with 3 walks, 3 runs scored, 2 runs batted in, and 3 stolen bases. Eric McPherson added a 2-for-5 performance with 2 runs scored, 3 runs batted in, and 2 stolen bases. Eric Goetz added a 3-for-3 night including a double, stole a bag and added 4 runs scored and a run batted in. Kirk Sipila was 2-for-4 with double, 3 runs scored, a walk and a run batted in, and Brian Kellner was 3-for-4 with 3 runs scored. Kevin Simmons walked twice and added a hit and 3 runs scored, while Mike Sopocy added a single, run scored, an 2 runs batted in.
“Hard to pick a player of the game with this kind of stats,” mentioned team skipper, Shawn Lee, who was a late scratch again due to injury. “Duran held their bats quietly all game and their pitching really struggled tonight. When they weren’t consistent, we walked, and if it was over the plate, we hit it. We were on cruise control tonight.
The team returns to action next Monday night when they visit the Red Sox, who have also struggled with roster issues all season. First pitch is slated for 8:45PM at Cowboy Field and fans can click here for schedule details.
