Spirits (50+) Drop Season Opener to White Sox

(February 25, 2022 – Carrollton, TX) Well, it doesn’t necessarily feel like baseball season and unfortunately for the Spirits (50+) squad, the team wasn’t quite ready to get after it and start with a W. Despite a fairly decent performance by the squad, the team fell to the White Sox by a score of 8 to 6 on Saturday at McInnish Park, Field #10.

Chris Allen finished 1-for-1, drawing a pair of walks and scored once to lead the Spirits offense. The team only forfeited two errors during the game, not bad considering the game was in February when most of the country is still shoveling snow and reevaluating their New Year’s resolutions to lose weight.

Kirk Sipila added a single and an RBI, while Mike Sopocy, Jack Nash, Stacy Scott, and newcomer, Jason Price were the only remaining Spirits to get hits. Scott took the mound for the Spirits and delivered 3 and 2/3 innings of work, allowing 3 earned runs off of 4 hits while walking 6 and striking out 3. Sipila and Sopocy cleaned up the remaining 2 and a 1/3 innings, but the offense just couldn’t find a spark despite White Sox pitcher, Jose Ponce giving them 9 walks alongside striking out 7 of his own.

The team will return to action on an off night as they meet up with the Redbirds on Wednesday night as part of a scheduled doubleheader between leagues to accommodate scheduling of games. Click here for schedule details or to listen live, online using the iScore Central app.
