(August 26, 2020 – Euless, TX) Runs came in big numbers but hits were still a bit scarce as the Spirits (40+) squad cruised against the Rangers last Wednesday night in DFW-ABA League action. Both teams struggled fielding the baseball as each squad finished with 4 errors, but the Spirits won the edge on hits, 8 to 7 and went on to win by a score of 12 to 2 before the game was retired due to the league’s mercy rule.
Travis Hitzeman finished with a pair of hits, runs scored and RBIs alongside John Hefner, who remained smoking hot at the plate after finishing 2-for-3 with 2 singles, 2 runs scored, 2 RBIs with 2 swiped bags. Kirk Sipila added a single, run scored and 2 runs batted in and Brant Finchum finished 1-for-1 with a run scored, RBI and 2 walks. David Tipton, Dan Sosa, and Stacy Scott each drew a pair of walks to add to Spirits reaching base and getting around to score.
John Holmquist picked up the win after tossing 3 innings along just one unearned run on 5 hits while striking out 1. Scott added a pair of innings to close out the game, allowing one earned run on 2 hits.
The team returns to action next Wednesday when they host the Fighting Chihuahuas at Texas Star. First pitch is scheduled for 8:45PM on Legends Field. Click here for schedule details.
