(July 5, 2018 – Plano, TX) It was an ugly loss for the Spirits (35+) squad Thursday night as the team had an opportunity to claim the top spot in the NTABL Veterans League standings with a win over the Cardinals. It was the Cardinals, however who were more interested in obtaining that top spot as they limited the Spirits to just 2 hits on the evening as they coasted to an 8 to 1 victory at Graham Field.
Patrick Bilgere and John Showalter were the only two Spirits hitters able to hit safely, while several other Spirits were able to draw walks to get on base. The Spirits also used the opportunity to showcase their “Little League” skills as 6 errors plagued the team defensively.
Joe Lowry and Phil Bosco led the Cardinals, each with 3-for-3 performances from the plate, while Juan Mollinedo added a 2-for-2 evening, including a walk and a pair of RBIs as well. Dustin Harrison pitched a complete game for the Cards, allowing one run off the 2 hits, walking 4, and striking out 7.
Manager, Shawn Lee had no comment following the loss.
The Spirits (8-3) will return to action next Thursday night as they visit the Royals Baseball Club at McInnish Park, Field #10 in Carrollton.
