(September 29, 2021 – Euless, TX) The offense was back in “full swing” Wednesday night as the Spirits (40+) fall squad used a 4-run first inning to pole vault past the Fighting Chihuahuas by a score of 11 to 2. The Spirits rallied for 14 hits against just 6 for the dogs as the team earned another win in DFW ABA 40+ Fall League action on Arlington Field at Texas Star.
Eric McPherson and a red hot hitting, Earl German each recorded 3 hits on the night, while Aaron Wilson and Jonathan Duran each added a pair of hits as well. Bobby Kornhauser finished with 3 runs batted in, scored once, and walked once, while Wilson also added a pair of RBIs. Chris Lewis doubled on the night and also added a free trip to first alongside his 2 RBIs, and Duran scored 3 times and added an RBI to top the Spirits box score.
McPherson, Wilson, and Travis Hitzeman each led the game off with singles to load the bags, but McPherson was eventually squeezed at home on a ground ball that allowed Will Nash to reach on the fielder’s choice. Kornhauser drew a walk to score Wilson and a double by Lewis scored both Hitzeman and Nash. Shawn Hunt grounded out, but Kornhauser was able to score on the play and the Spirits had a 4 to 0 lead in the first.
The Spirits made it 5 to 0 in the second after Duran scored on an RBI single by McPherson and eventually, the Chihuahuas broke the scoring ice by picking up a run in the third to make it, 5 to 1.
The ghosts added another 3 runs in the fourth after Stacy Scott reached on an error and moved to second on German’s second hit on the night. Brant Finchum reached on a fielder’s choice that put out German, but moved Scott to third and a follow up single by Duran scored Scott. McPherson singled to load the bags and a hard single by Wilson scored both Finchum and Duran and it was 8 to 1, Spirits.
The Chihuahuas added a second run in the bottom half of the fifth, but the Spirits then rallied for another 3 runs in the top half of the six after Duran singled and McPherson reached on an error. Wilson reached on a fielder’s choice that put out McPherson and a Hitzeman followed suit with a fielder’s choice that allowed Duran to cross the plate. A single by Nash moved Hitzeman to second and a wild pitch moved both runners over before Kornhauser singled to score them both and gave the Spirits an 11 to 2 edge that would finally be the ending score.
The Spirits move on to visit the Brewers next week with a 6:30PM scheduled first pitch. The game will occur on Arlington Field at Texas Star and you can click here for schedule details.
