12-Run First Sparks Route of Denton Expos

(September 28, 2023 – Coppell, TX) It was kind of over before it started for the Spirits (40+) Fall baseball team on Thursday as the team used a 12-run first inning to put away the Denton Expos early in NTABL Brazos Division fall action. The Spirits cruised to a 21 to 4 victory before the dust settled.

The ghosts walked a way with 21 runs on 21 hits, walked 5 times on their way to an easy victory. Every Spirits hitter reached base safely, with all hitters hitting safely at least once with the exception of one batter. Travis Hitzeman, Mike Sopocy, and Jonathan Duran each helped lead the Spirits with 3 hits each, however Earl German finished with a 4-for-4 day that included 3 runs scored and an RBI.

Duran was 3-for-3 with a run scored and 5 runs batted in while also picking up the win from the mound. Duran tossed 3 innings and allowed one unearned run off two hits, walked none, and struck out 5. Sopocy added a double, 3 runs scored, and 3 runs batted in while Hitzeman added 2 ruins scored and 3 runs batted in as well. Billy McDaniel finished 1-for-3 with a double, 3 runs scored, a walk, and a run batted in, and he also closed out the final inning and a third allowing no hits, no runs, while walking and striking out one.

Mickey Whitaker, Vincent Mecca, and another Eddie Wilson each finished with a single for the Expos. The Spirits return to action on Sunday when they host the Knights on Graham Field at Prestonwood Christian Academy.
