Spirits (40+) Unable to Keep Up With Redbirds

(July 8, 2020 – Euless, TX) It wasn’t for lack of effort, but it may have been lack of hitting. The Spirits (40+) squad fell to the DFW ABA League leading Redbirds last Wednesday night by a score of 6 to 2. The birds outhit the Spirits by a margin of 14 to 5 and pitcher Scott Clawson picked up the complete-game win behind a solid defense that foreshadowed the game’s final score.

Stacy Scott, Shawn Lee and Brant Finchum led the Spirits offense with both Scott and Finchum recording doubles on the night and Lee finishing with a Triple and a run scored. David Tipton and John Hefner were the only other two Spirits to finish the game with a hit, with Tipton scoring the teams other run.

Joe Lowry carried the birds with a 4-for-4 evening, adding two runs and an RBI while Juan Mollinedo added a 3-for-3 performance with a run scored and a pair of RBIs. Clawson finished the evening going 7 innings while allowing 2 earned on 5 hits, walking one and striking out 3. Spirits starting pitcher, Dan Sosa takes the loss despite an offense that wasn’t able to put runs on the scoreboard. Finchum mopped up the last 4 innings for the Spirits.

The loss evens the Spirits record at 2-2 and leaves a shadow of a .500 season from just a year ago on the minds of the squad that seems to be doing just that. They either hit or they don’t. The good news is the season is young and the squad has plenty of time to turn things around. The battle will start uphill as they host the Drillers, another DFW ABA top talent next Wednesday night. The game is scheduled for 6:30PM on Arlington Field at Texas Star and you can click here for schedule details or to for information on how to download the iScore Central app to listen to the game live.
