Shawn Hunt returns to the Spirits in his fourth full season coming to Dallas by way of the state of Oregon. Hunt joined the Spirits as a tournament player in the MSBL Las Vegas Kickoff Classic, and made his way to full time as the Spirits (35+) catcher in 2020. In 2021, the team moved to the DFW-ABA (40+) League and Shawn continues to hold his half of the team’s starting battery.
Hunt is solid behind the dish and can also be relied upon to play 3B if necessary. He packs a solid arm behind the dish and provides the team with a needed asset of taking down greedy base runners for opposing teams who attempt to swipe bases.
In 2022, Shawn will continue to act as the Spirits (40+) starting catcher while filling in when needed with the Spirits (45+) squad. Hunt struggled a bit from the dish in 2020, finishing the season with a .139 batting average, but he made his hits count when they did by adding 7 RBIs on just 5 hits. Hunt also added 8 free trips to first base by drawing 6 walks and being hit-by-pitch twice. With a great deal of time spent working on his swing in the offseason, Hunt looks to step up his contributions as the Spirits (40+) refurbishes a bit and looks to eye up a better shot at a DFW-ABA title in 2021.
During the 2021 campaign, Hunt finished with a solid .316 batting average, adding 12 hits including 3 extra base hits in the form of 2 doubles and a triple. He also scored 12 times and pitched in 9 runs batted in with hits that often showed up during clutch moments in ball games. Shawn finished second on the team with 13 free passes to first and lead the team by wearing 4 pitches.
In 2022, Hunt continued to improve, helping lead the Spirits as one of the team’s top defenders and solid improvement in his swing. Shawn finished 2022 for the (40+) squad with a .340 batting average, adding 16 hits that included a pair of doubles, 9 runs scored, and 7 RBIs. For the Spirits (42+) squad, Hunt appeared in 3 games, adding 4 hits with a pair of doubles, and 5 runs batted in. Hunt finished the Fall campaign with a .348 average with 8 hits including a double and a triple, 5 walks, 11 runs scored, and 6 runs batted in.
Hunt resides in Fort Worth.
