Grant Martin returns to the Spirits following his debut during the 2019 campaign. Martin is a left-handed first baseman and outfielder, but is also interested in doing some pitching. Martin played high school at Spring Woods High School in 1998 down in the Houston area and at the same high school that produced Roger Clemens During his playing experience, he had the opportunity to play against Josh Beckett who attended Spring High School, his team’s rival.
Martin’s experience playing the game ended at the high school level and he focused his talents on becoming a pilot. He loves traveling and he’s currently employed as a CRJ-900 pilot for American Airlines out of DFW. He resides in Fort Worth, Texas and his bobbies include almost anything aviation. Grant is an avid attendee for airshows, museums and anything related to general aviation flying. He enjoys a variety of sports, mainly baseball and college football.
Martin saw action in 7 games during 2019 and finished with a .312 batting average. During the fall season, Martin finished with a .375 average that included 7 hits and a double, 3 runs batted in and 3 stolen bags.
Grant spent over 8 years in the naval service, including over 4 years as an enlisted jet mechanic on SH-60 Seahawks (HSL-44 “Swamp Foxes” squadron) and was stationed in Pensacola and
Jacksonville, Florida. He was deployed on the USS Peterson 6 days after 9/11 and spent over 3 years as a Navy Lieutenant aboard the USS Boxer.
He was born and raised in Houston, spent time living in Jacksonville, Florida, San Diego, California and in Austin and Killeen, Texas. He’s married to wife, Jill and the couple has been married for nearly two and a half years. They have a daughter, Taylor who is 18 months old. Martin holds 2 Associates Degrees and 2 Bachelor Degrees.
