(April 23, 2022 – Carrollton, TX) It was lopsided. It was unfair. But it wasn’t the fault of the Spirits (50+) squad this past Saturday morning. The Spirits showed up ready for another interleague game and were unfortunately matched up against a Metroflex team that simply wasn’t ready to play. The Flex showed with 8 players and that would prove to be fatal, as the Spirits lit up the scoreboard for 17 runs in the first inning before giving up on offense with just two outs in the inning.
The squads eventually decided to scrimmage, with some of the Spirits players crossing the diamond to give both teams some work before the day was over. The Spirits offense set down Metroflex quickly in the first, despite a single by Jeff Jones and then the offensive flood gates opened and took no prisoners. The Spirits batted around twice, adding 17 runs off of 9 hits and 7 walks that included 2 hits, a pair of runs scored, and 4 RBIs from Mike Sopocy. Eric McPherson added a double in his 2 hits, scoring twice, and adding 2 runs batted in as well. John Holmquist pitched a pair of innings, allowing zero runs on 2 hits while striking out 2.
The team returns to the field next Saturday and will face a test against the DFW-ABA 50 League defending champions in the form of the White Sox. Game is scheduled for 9:00AM at Lively Field in Irving. Click here for schedule details and download the iScore Central app to listen to games live.
