(May 14, 2022 – Carrollton, TX) Highlights were few and far between as a very short handed Spirits (50+) squad fell to the AA Red Sox Saturday morning. The team showed with 8 players and the lack of availability cost them.
Chris Allen, Mike Sopocy, and John Holmquist each finished with a pair of hits, and despite out-hitting their opponent, the squad fell due to lack of pitching. Allen shined in a moment of relief, however, coming in from his normal centerfield position to pitch the final 3 innings. Shawn Lee struggled to find the strike zone in relief of Sopocy, walking 5 straight hitters. Allen was faced with loaded bags and a triple by one of the Red Sox cleared the bags to give the Red Sox a 10 to 1 lead before the inning was finished.
The Spirits scratched their way back to a 10 to 6 deficit, but the offense wasn’t able to jump start. Three separate times the Spirits has runners in scoring position only to see the inning crash to a screaming halt.
The team will look to get back in the win column as they take on the Rangers next Saturday at Lively Park in Irving. First pitch is slated for 9:00AM and you can click here for schedule details.
