Offense Continues to be Missing in Action on Saturdays

(June 18, 2022 – Carrollton, TX) The Spirits (50+) offense needs to be placed on the back of a milk carton. The team simply fails to take advantage of opportunities or to put hits together to score runs and this past Saturday’s loss has put the team in a position of a foot in the grave for postseason action.

A preseason favorite to make some noise as newcomers to the DFW-ABA 50 League, the Spirits sit at a dismal, 7-6 record and may not make the postseason for the first time in the team’s history. This past Saturday, the squad dropped an 8 to 2 decision to the league-leading Redbirds, and failed to avenge an earlier season loss.

Brian Hackney was the only Spirit to finish with more than one hit, adding 2 hits on 3 appearances at the dish while adding an RBI. Will Nash picked up the team’s only other run batted in, and Kirk Sipila added a double on the day as the team finished with just 7 hits. Pitcher, John Holmquist pitched well enough to win, but the team simply failed to score. Holmquist walked just one batter, allowing 5 earned runs. The Redbirds picked up another pair of runs off of closer, Mike Sopocy but the failed run support was the major issue in the team’s demise.

Kevin Fought led the Redbirds with 2 hits, including a double and 4 runs batted in. The Spirits return to action next Saturday when they visit the top-seeded B Division, Storm. Click here for schedule details as the game takes place at McInnish Park, Field #10 starting at 11:45AM.
