Spirits One Game Winning Streak Comes to an End

(August 8, 2019 – Plano, TX) Well that didn’t last very long. The peaks and valleys show continued for the Spirits (35+) squad Monday night as they dropped game two of their scheduled double-header versus different foes on Graham Field. Opponent number two for the evening was the Dodgers and for most of the game, it appeared the Spirits might find the opportunity to win two games in a row. Unfortunately that wasn’t in the cards.

The Spirits offense broke the scoring ice in the bottom half of the second inning after David Tipton reached on an error. Tipton swiped second base and later stole third before he was able to score on a passed ball during an at-bat by Brant Finchum and the Spirits led the game, 1 to 0.

The Dodgers tied things up in the third inning after Ryan Rejcek reached on an error and Phil Luna pushed him to third on a single off of Spirits starter, Earl German. Eric Landsberger walked to load the bases and an error by the Spirits catcher, John Hefner allowed Rejcek to cross the dish and tie things up before German was able to get the next to Dodgers on strikes.

The Spirits rallied, however after Henfer singled and was squeezed at second base after Cliff Brade lined out and Eric McPherson reached on a fielder’s choice. McPherson stole second base and would later score on a single by Kirk Sipila.

The Spirits made it 3 to 1 in the fourth after Tipton reached on an error and scored after swiping second and racing home on a double by Bobby Korhauser, but unfortunately for the Spirits the bottom fell out after the Dodgers made their way to the plate for offense in the sixth.

Two walks, an error and a pair of singles and a double led to 4 Dodgers runs and a 5 to 3 lead. Nick Bird added the exclamation point in the seventh inning with a solo home run and the Spirits could only sit back and stare as the apparent victory turned into another loss.

Sipila finished the night with a pair of hits to lead the Spirits offense and Molldrem and Kornhauser picked up the team’s two runs batted in to cap off the box score. The squad heads back to the plains as they’ll caravan back to First Baptist Academy next week to face Modoc. Click here for schedule details.
