(October 9, 2019 – Carrollton, TX) It was ugly and in the defense of the Dallas Bulls, they struggled to get enough players on the field. The squad was forced to battle the offensive-heavy Spirits with just 8 players Wednesday night and the confusing start for the team and its lineup showed in the box score as the Spirits pummeled the Bulls and one of their very own summer aces, John Holmquist by a score of 14 to 1 in NTABL Brazos Division fall action.
The Bulls finished with just 3 hits as Jonathan Duran and Duane Aponte combined to effectively shut down the Bulls offense in six innings of work that included 5 strikeouts. Jason Bottenfield, Patrick Bilgere and Aponte each finished the evening with three hits each, with Bilgere and Aponte finishing a perfect 3-for-3 and a base-on-balls apiece. Kirk Sipila finished 2-for-2 with a double, run scored and a run batted in as did Brant Finchum as every Spirit hit safely except one with twelve players in the lineup.
The Spirits picked up 3 runs in both the first and third innings and during the second and fourth innings, the added 4 runs in each. Sipila and David Tipton both doubled and Bottenfield capped off the box score with an inside-the-park home run as he finished the night with 3 runs scored and 2 batted in. The victory pushes the team’s record to 5-1 and the team will turn around to face the very same Bulls squad on Sunday afternoon as the teams square off at North Lake College at 4:30PM.
